What is a box break and how does it work?

A box break is a way to split up the contents of a booster box into slots prior to opening the box. We will be recording the opening of the box and distribute the cards based on the slot it is in. 

Due to the heavy multicolor emphasis in Streets of New Capenna, we have decided to make some adjustments to our normal slots and what is included in them. Our main intention is to even out the odds for each slot and not make the multicolor slot the only enticing option. Please read to understand the updated slot composition.

For Streets of New Capenna, we will be offering 6 slots: White, Blue, Black, Red, Green, and Multicolor/Colorless/Land. The main difference is what is included in the mono color slots. In Streets of New Capenna, there are 5 cards with “Hybrid” casting costs that can be cast by mono color.

• Rigo, Streetwise Mentor {G/W}{W}{W/U} can be cast using only {W}
• Toluz, Clever Conductor {W/U}{U}{U/B} can be cast using only {U}
• Evelyn, the Covetous {2}{U/B}{B}{B/R} can be cast using only {B}
• Ognis, the Dragon’s Lash {1}{B/R}{R}{R/G} can be cast using only {R}
• Jinnie Fay, Jetmir’s Second {R/G}{G}{G/W} can be cast using only {G}

Based on these color combinations, any multicolor cards with GWU will go to the White slot, any multicolor cards with WUB will go to the Blue slot, any multicolor cards with UBR will go to the Black slot, any multicolor cards with BRG will go to the Red slot, and any multicolor cards with RGW will go to the Green slot. All other multicolor cards will remain in the multicolor slots. This will be applied to all card rarity. For example, if we pull Meeting of the Five {3}{W}{U}{B}{R}{G} it will be assigned to the Multicolor/Colorless/Land slot. If we pull Brazen Upstart {R}{G}{W} it will be assigned to the Green slot.

What am I buying?

You are buying one slot in this box break. Both the names of the winners and the names of the slots will be entered into the list randomizer at random.org. Buying multiple slots will increase your chances of getting the colors you want, and buying all slots will get you ALL the cards from the booster box.

What happens next?

Once we have assigned the slots to specific winners, we will break open the box and sort all the cards into the 6 different slots. You will receive ALL the cards in your assigned slot. For example, if you are assigned the White slot and we open up a Giada, Font of Hope from a pack, that will be yours. If you are assigned to the Blue slot and we pull a Cut Your Losses? That’s yours to keep! 

Are Commons and Uncommons included?

We will send out ALL the cards in your assigned slot including commons and uncommons. For example, if we pull an Offer You Can't Refuse, it will go to the Blue slot.

What about the box topper?

If a box topper is included in the box, it will be given out to one of the slots using wheelofnames.com.  Art cards & tokens will be randomly distributed across the slots.

When will the box break start?

This is a preorder, so the box break is subject to when we receive the product (release date is April 29th, 2022).
